What is Extend Unlock feature and how do I set it on?
How to Enable Extend Unlock on Samsung Galaxy Devices
The Extend Unlock feature allows your Samsung Galaxy device to remain unlocked in trusted locations, when detected on your body, or near trusted devices. This feature enhances convenience while maintaining security, provided you've set up a screen lock method beforehand.
1. What Is Extend Unlock?
The Extend Unlock feature automatically keeps your Samsung Galaxy device unlocked under specific conditions, such as when you're at a trusted location, carrying the device, or near a trusted device. It eliminates the need to repeatedly enter your PIN, pattern, or password, improving convenience while maintaining security.
- This feature is only available after setting a screen lock method (e.g., PIN, pattern, or password).
- If the device remains unused for four hours or is powered on, you'll need to unlock it manually using your set method.
2. How to Set Up Extend Unlock
Follow these steps to enable and configure the Extend Unlock feature on your Samsung Galaxy device:
- Open the Settings app on your device.
- Tap on Lock screen and AOD.
- Select Extend Unlock and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
- Choose the Extend Unlock type you want to use (On-body detection, Trusted locations, or Trusted devices).
3. Using On-Body Detection
On-body detection keeps your device unlocked as long as it's in motion, such as when you're holding or carrying it. The device will lock once it detects that it's been set down.
- On-body detection cannot distinguish between you and others. If someone takes your device while it's unlocked, they may still access it.
- Go to Settings > Lock screen and AOD > Extend Unlock.
- Enable On-body detection and follow the setup prompts.
4. Setting Up Trusted Locations
Trusted locations allow your device to remain unlocked when you're at predefined places, such as your home or office. If you've saved locations in Google Maps, they'll automatically appear as trusted places.
- Open Settings > Lock screen and AOD > Extend Unlock.
- Select Trusted locations and choose or add a location.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm the trusted place.
5. Adding Trusted Devices
Trusted devices ensure your phone stays unlocked when connected via Bluetooth or another method. If disconnected, the device may lock, even if it reconnects later.
- Bluetooth connection range may vary depending on environmental factors.
- Navigate to Settings > Lock screen and AOD > Extend Unlock.
- Select Trusted devices and pair your device with a trusted Bluetooth device.
- Complete the setup process as prompted.
6. Supported Samsung Galaxy Devices
The Extend Unlock feature is available on most modern Samsung Galaxy devices, including:
- Galaxy S24, S25, and S26 series
- Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series
- Galaxy A series (select models)
7. Additional Things to Check
Ensure your device's software and related apps are updated to the latest version for optimal performance of the Extend Unlock feature. Device screenshots and menus may vary depending on your model and software version.
