How to Unlock Samsung Galaxy Using a Previous Screen Lock Method

Learn how to unlock your Samsung Galaxy device using a previous PIN, password, or pattern when you forget your current lock method. Supported on Galaxy models with One UI 6.1 or later.

If you've forgotten your current screen lock PIN, password, or pattern, you can unlock your Samsung Galaxy device using a previously saved lock method. This feature is available on Galaxy devices running One UI 6.1 or later and allows one attempt per lock type after changing your screen lock settings.

1. When Can You Use a Previous Screen Lock Method?

The previous screen lock method can be used under the following conditions:

- Your Samsung Galaxy device runs One UI 6.1 or later.

- You have changed your screen lock PIN, password, or pattern within the last 72 hours.

- You have made five or more failed attempts to unlock your device, activating the "Forgot PIN/Password/Pattern" option.

2. How to Unlock Your Device Using a Previous Lock Method

  1. After five or more failed unlock attempts, the "Forgot PIN/Password/Pattern" option will appear on the lock screen.
  2. Tap "Forgot PIN/Password/Pattern" to access the recovery option.
  3. Enter your previous screen lock PIN, password, or pattern when prompted.
  4. If the previous lock method is entered correctly, your device will unlock.

Note: If you enter the previous lock method incorrectly three times, no further attempts will be allowed. In this case, you may need to use Samsung's Find My Mobile service or contact Samsung Support for assistance.

- Verify that you changed your screen lock method within the last 72 hours.

- Check if the previous lock method was saved correctly before changing your screen lock settings.
